The Miller Lead ensures success of the milling operations from start to finish. Working in collaboration with the Project Manager and Site Supervisor, the Miller Lead guides a crew of one or two people in safe milling operations. The Milling Lead is responsible for training and coaching employees, operating the milling machine, operating other equipment as required, and performing regular miller and equipment maintenance. This position requires someone who is a self-starter, takes pride in their work, pays attention to details, and enjoys working within a team environment
Profile
What is the role?
- Lead by example to ensure safety is a top priority at all times by promoting the company’s safety program and effectively contributing to a safe work culture.
- Ensure required safety practices and procedures are respected and followed
- In collaboration with the Site Supervisor, plan and execute milling operations, establish priorities and sequence of operations which may include the review of contracts related to the milling operations
- Supervise and train staff in the safe operation of the milling machine
- Operate and maintain the milling machine
- Resolve routine operational, maintenance problems
- Track milling maintenance including how often miller teeth are changed
- Operate broom and water truck
- Working as part of the HJR Asphalt team, perform other road construction tasks to ensure the successful completion of projects
What do we value?
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (minimum)
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Milling operations experience; knowledge of Wirtgen Millers is an asset
- 3+ years working in road construction
- Experience leading a small crew of employees
- Ability to plan and organize
- Experience operating heavy equipment
- Ability to lift 50lbs
