Senior Consultant (Environmental & Waste Management)

  • Location: Milton Park, Abingdon
  • Hybrid working (roughly 60% office based)
  • Salary: £55,000-£65,000 (depending on experience)
     

NUVIA is growing its consultancy business unit and is looking for capable professionals to join the Environmental & Waste Management team. The role will entail working alongside our customers or supporting our internal engineering department, on a range of nuclear technology, defence and decommissioning projects. You will spend your time split between working at home, our Milton Park office and occasionally visiting customer sites subject to project requirements.

 

We are seeking self-motivated and resilient individuals who wish to gain responsibility for their own independent delivery, whilst supporting NUVIA's ambition of achieving continual improvement in environmental performance across its own operations and those of its clients.

 

Responsibilities

As the Senior Consultant, you will also be involved in the following:

  • Developing a sound technical understanding of the industry and particular technical disciplines,
  • Contributing to project teams of varying size providing technical advice,
  • Liaising with Clients and deputising for Principal Technical Specialists for project reporting,
  • Responsibility for checking work of other project members,
  • Support with UK environmental permitting regulations (EPR16/ EASR18) and UK legislation relating to environmental and/or waste management and national and/or international guidelines (e.g. NICOP BAT, IAEA guides).
  • Writing and supporting the development of Best Available Techniques (BAT) / Best Practical Means (BPM) justifications. As well as supporting environmental assessments such as creating registers of project/facility environmental aspects and the development of associated mitigation strategies.
  • Facilitating or contributing to optioneering studies, including those underpinning BAT/ BPM studies, developing optimised waste management strategies and engineering design projects.
  • Supporting tendering and bid writing activities and proactively identifying relevant opportunities to support business growth.

Profile

Qualification & Experiences

To be considered for the Senior Consultant role you should have most of the following knowledge or experience:

 

Essential

  • Degree qualified preferably in an environmental or related discipline,
  • Previous industry experience ideally in nuclear, defence or working with radiological hazards,
  • Ability to provide technical (environmental) support to safety cases and HAZOP studies,
  • Experience of characterising, categorising or consigning radioactive materials,
  • Supporting or planning decommissioning or demolition projects,
  • Good technical report writing skill,
  • Experience in supporting tendering activities and bid writing,
  • UK environmental permitting regulations (EPR16/ EASR18),
  • UK legislation relating to environmental and/or waste management and national and/or international guidelines (e.g. NICOP BAT, IAEA guides),
  • Best Available Techniques (BAT) / Best Practical Means (BPM) knowledge,
  • Clean UK drivers’ licence.
